I am a new monthly member and just read "What to do when you need a mother." It was exactly what I needed to hear (and I sent it to my son in college and he too said it was what he needed to hear!)
I experienced several traumatic events this summer that made me feel completely out of control. One incident was a tornado that tore through a neighborhood 7 miles from my home. I live in Florida, and every time a natural disaster happens I am thrown into this chaos, as Alain de Botton explains:
"we never succeed in insulating ourselves against the kind of catastrophic events that sweep away our ability to reason, our courage and our resourcefulness at putting dramas in perspective and throw us back into a state of primordial helplessness."
Ah ha! I am recovering from the very human experience of trauma that our society has not yet figured out a way to accept as inevitable and provide "motherly" resources.
Another ah, ha! I am healthy, not 'mentally ill' that a pill is marketed to cure : "Christianity describes the capacity to accept the idea of one’s ongoing child-like nature as a mark of moral and spiritual health. Psychoanalysts would agree. Only the brittle and unnaturally haughty would attempt to deny their weaknesses."
This is very exciting, thank you, Susan. Such a thoughtful gift. Thank you, so much.
I'm not sure when my annual membership renews so I look forward to my renewal date. Susan, do you plan to put on Amazon or other such sites in the future for non-subscribers and those who might want to purchase additional copies for gifts and such like?
Thanks, Ian! I’m not sure about Amazon, but you all can buy as many copies as you’d like, as gifts, via the instructions in today’s post! And I’ll post again about it in future.
So excited about this quiet journal! I looove journals. I have plenty (never too many) but I use them all (for different purposes). I like to organise my ideas. Thank you for making it available around the wold. Looking forward to holding it in my hands :))
