I very much enjoyed this post, so yes, let's keep them coming! The ones that spoke to me are Andromeda and Underwater Vision.
Andromeda hit me hard, as lately I've been feeling chained to something I want to be free from, and I'm holding on to hope that it will arrive, like an ascension to a more joyful space. The colors in that painting are so bold and bright, which tapped into my feelings of hope--the bold escape and the light that is on the other side.
Underwater Vision speaks to me so deeply, as I love the ocean. The colors and hues in that painting pull me in and take me to that special place that is where I find my peace.
I loved learning about Redon and I especially love the ethereal nature of his work. I'd also love to learn more about other artists who explore the mystical-intellectual domain. One of my personal favourites is Swedish artist and mystic, Hilma af Klint. Some artists seem to have ability to tap into other dimensions, which luckily, we can visit through their art. Thanks for a visually, beautiful and inspiring post Susan.
loved this letter, the paintings and background information! thank you so much for sharing.
I always found O. Redon a very special artist, for the colour composition, the symbolic, the atmosphere that is created. It's something to be lost in. . . - the ones you posted are beautiful, dreamy, others I've seen are darker, sometimes a bit scary.
I very much like to go to exhibitions, look at art in a museum, and very often have noticed that what makes me like it or not, is not something rational, analytical or logical - but indeed felt, and sometimes it hard to put it into words.
I've never seen any of the ones you posted before - some of them seem like remnants from older times, a (roman) fresco of which only parts remain, earthy, natural colours, realistic shapes, but then there's a special light, the sparkle from the box in the boat etc. - intriguing and beautiful - a sign from a different world? an angel?
I guess, it's clear that the answer to you second and third question is yes! I'd love to read / see more of that.
Absolutely loved this sharing! The colors, the spirituality, the creativity, all of it. Please do continue to share more of this type of gorgeous art and thoughts. Thank you!
More such loveliness anytime, please, Susan -- wondrous to feel how these gentle, wise works tug at my own depths, stirring neglected roots to bloom anew from beneath the sorrows and frets of today's doings --
Thank you for showcasing the work of one of my favorite artists, Susan! I'm always captivated by his work — the luminous color palette, the elegant softness of his lines. Engaging with these scenes, I feel I can see through the thin veil separating our concrete world from the radiant realm of the spirit.
Melancholy, part of the Art Institute of Chicago's collection, is one of my favorites. It made an ideal image for a Melancholy Mixtape I published last summer, a collection of meditative music of love and longing.
Yes, more like this please! I've never heard of Redon until this post, so thank you! I do feel drawn to this kind of art (versus your standard still life or landscape, or even portrait). The realm of dreams is where I live, so it makes me happy to see artists representing this.
Not just art, but the inward ethereal source of creativity. Light caught by a spirit. I tried to write about it one time. Didn’t keep it, it was enough to express it. But I came to a meadow clearing in the mountains, and there in the center was this being, this spirit. She had the freedom of her solitude and danced and swayed with her palms and face held upward, she was a light catcher. I laid down in the grass in quiet stillness to watch, and as she moved, eyes closed, with face and hands held upward, all around her, things began to grow. Light flowed through her, and emanated beauty. And it was so beautiful that I thought how wonderful it would be to have her, maybe a lasso? But the very thought was too harsh, she was a spirit of the meadow, of her own solitude, a conduit of light’s beauty. With the first movement to have her, somehow I knew, she wouldn’t just run away, she would vanish into thin air. So I felt, it is enough to lay quietly and watch her dance of light and beauty. This is for me, in the realm of my feelings what I think of creativity.

Yes, we need more, especially now.
Yes please Susan.
I really like the paintings shown in this post. I was not familiar with Redon's work but now want to see more of it.
Yes, please, more posts like this. Thanks.
I love these images you posted today and yes I’d be very interested in further mystical/intellectual reflections!
Odilon Redon is a favorite of mine. Your post was perfect. More like this please.

As long as natural and made by a human being is amazing. Life lies between sides.
