You've heard of the "Hero's Journey" - but what about the "Soul's Journey"?
Every storyteller (and human) should understand this
On Wednesday morning, I gave a talk to a room full of storytellers, at one of America’s most creative companies.
And I found myself telling them about the difference between the Hero’s Journey and the Soul’s Journey.
We’ve all heard that the great human narrative is the “Hero’s Journey,” in which a hero has an adventure, confronts a great challenge, and emerges transformed. Much of Hollywood storytelling - and thus our conception of our own life stories - is based on this progression.
But we’ve forgotten our other great narrative, which we might call the “Soul’s Journey”:
