Dear You,
Hopefully, today’s Kindred Letter finds you feeling infinitely contented, peaceful, satisfied, and in good company, or good solitude.
But just in case not — and just because every life is going to have its rough spots — today let’s talk about how to mother yourself, i.e., how to tap into the universal force of motherly love.
If you were lucky to have enjoyed a healthy childhood relationship with your mother/caregiver, you’ll have internalized this mother figure - this beneficent force - and be able to soothe and strengthen yourself, when troubles come.
But even then, there may be times when you long for the consoling, unconditional love that we associate with the platonic state of motherhood.
Here are three of my favorite guides to this state of mind, from three of the world’s wisdom traditions. I’ve collected these guides over the years.
I share them in the hope that at least one of them will speak to you, so you can call upon it when you need - and ideally, invoke it as a daily practice .
