Susan, this is my personal perspective hope you and your guest will discuss.
AI , I fully understand how people feel anxious and so worry that AI will take their business. People think will have no place, AI is dominating all walks of life. However, i don’t agree, I look at AI the same to Industrial Revolution in the UK three centuries ago. I mean the emerging industry at that time required to recruit more people than ever before in all fields of life. Machines need people to function and run them, for instance in agriculture, there are machines including tractors, water supply motors these new technologies doubled the agricultural production which required people to collect and harvest the crops. So AI the same thing like Industrial Revolution.
My question above, I will make it better and paraphrase in order to be very understood because this is a very important topic. I need time to make it in a good way.
I am looking forward to this. Sadly enough, this Sunday is my grandson's birthday, and I cannot be there. I will watch the recording.
I never understood why identity should be by any means linked to profession and work, and I have been waiting since I was seven, foreseeing the impact artificial intelligence would one day have on the workplace as it is organized today (low-level, highly repetitive and uncreative work that is mostly inhumane), for this to change.
Please do not use the phrase super-intelligence. This politicizes the discussion unnecessarily and is incorrect in itself.
I am convinced that most empathy is merely cognitive in nature, even between humans, and does not constitute a true human trait that sets us apart. Cognitive empathy can easily be imitated. Therefore, I don't see empathy as a driving force for future human relevance.
And while I know that introverts can lead, influencing is not their core strength in a world shaped mostly by extraverts. How would influencing look for them in this future world? (Asking because we are a community of introverts.) As a whole, it would be interesting to hear specifics about how introverts should approach this change.
Though it is anecdotal, I do have concerns about AI. Most of my concerns are for my children, now grown. One son in law is a pilot for Delta Airlines. I am not too concerned about him, it is an earned skill with important skill trust issues. But the other son in law is in the financial management area, and wow, this could end. I frankly don’t know why people seem so unconcerned about the displacement of really skilled humans, really good people who may find very soon that all their efforts, all their hard work, might very soon mean nothing. Again, I see this matter through the lives of my children and their families, but I also think about how this may impact our society en mass. I’m not sure we are prepared for what is coming. Susan, as you might have expected, I am Eeyore on this subject. :-)
Rich, the matter you raised is one of concerning aspects that occupying people’s thinking nowadays. Nobody knows what coming days that Super intelligence bearing for us in future. However, i don’t have huge concern about that, as I explained in my comment above to Susan Cain how industrial revolution in the UK recruiting more people than ever before in history. Beside that, I love a very lovely quote to Susan Cain in interview with Sam Harris regarding the generated writing via AI, Susan Cain says “I lose interest the moment I realise it’s AI”, that exactly what I feel and agree 💯 with her.
Rich, this Zoom meeting will be great i can’t wait, I want to know how scholars and academics and writers reflect and think and interact with this matter.
