Modern Russian history and Russian literature has always held a special fascination for me. I was born in Germany (now living in Calgary, Alberta). My parents had to learn Russian in school and I grew up with some idea of the sensibilities. I believe these vague sensations, deep down, have informed my life in subtle ways. Later, as an adult, I joined a church (now no longer a part of organized religion in any way) that held German services. Many of the elderly German folk had been living in Russian territories that were German in ethnicity and language, forced to flee during the second world war to Germany, but carrying so much of the Russian sensibilities with them. My mother was born in what was Königsberg, East Prussia, once a German state, later absorbed into Russia.
It's been a while since I've taken part in a Candlelight Chat (so busy with work!!!!) but very much looking forward to this one.
Susan, I’m in Australia and will listen to the recording . I love the sound of this talk. You mentioned that you have articles of GSM’s to share. Can we have links?
I have a question for your guest: What does he consider to be the best translation of Crime and Punishment?
