Hello! As promised, here is the next edition of our new travel series, for seekers of Quiet, Depth, and Beauty. Coming soon: editions on London, Oxford, the San Francisco Bay Area, and a much overlooked Caribbean island. (The Silent Book Club recently did a post on Paris, courtesy of Jo Piazza, which you should also check out!)

But before we dive into guides to specific cities, I thought I’d lay out my own approach to travel - a kind of manifesto for traveling introverts.

Be a flâneur. The best way to see a city is on foot. (If you are lucky to have the physical capacity to walk for hours, use it while you can!) But the term flâneur also captures a psychological position that resonates for many introverts:
